Cleaning up OTF records

The “on-the-fly” (OTF) records for journals/serials have been suppressed from the OPAC, and will only display in the Circulation Module.

If you come across OTF records for books at the desk or during the course of bibliographic searching, and are moved to go into the stacks to pull the book circulating on the unlinked barcode (writing down the barcode before going into the stacks saves time), Bill Austin will fix the record (delete the OTF and link the volume to the bib record) in CLIO. I usually give him a CLIO print-out listing the OTF record and the record to which it should be linked. You can put the books on his desk (the desk closest to the door in Collection Maintenance). I’ve been slowly (3-4 books a day) bringing him problems in women’s studies sections. This isn’t a solution to the whole problem, but it is good to know that there is a mechanism for small scale clean-up.
