Wireless problems in 301

I’ve had a report of pbms connecting to the wireless in 301. It’s probably overload on the systerm; shld these be reported somewhere?

Lehman ref. phone

When you call Lehman (212.854.4170 ), do not press “2″ to go to reference. That line is not being answered. Choose the circulation option instead.

Light out in Alcove 32

A patron alerted me to the fact that there is a burnt out light in Alcove 32 in Room 310. I have reported the problem to ButlerFix.

New Publication, NextSpace
“NextSpace grew from the OCLC Newsletter and will analyze industry trends and technology developments, as well as feature news about OCLC. The goal is to help member libraries stay informed and make key decisions. The new community page brings together in one area of the OCLC Web site activities that OCLC undertakes on behalf of, or alongside, the library community, such as standards development, advocacy advertising and member reports. The page also provides a forum for librarians to dialog and comment on OCLC initiatives and general industry issues.”

Cleaning up OTF records

The “on-the-fly” (OTF) records for journals/serials have been suppressed from the OPAC, and will only display in the Circulation Module.

If you come across OTF records for books at the desk or during the course of bibliographic searching, and are moved to go into the stacks to pull the book circulating on the unlinked barcode (writing down the barcode before going into the stacks saves time), Bill Austin will fix the record (delete the OTF and link the volume to the bib record) in CLIO. I usually give him a CLIO print-out listing the OTF record and the record to which it should be linked. You can put the books on his desk (the desk closest to the door in Collection Maintenance). I’ve been slowly (3-4 books a day) bringing him problems in women’s studies sections. This isn’t a solution to the whole problem, but it is good to know that there is a mechanism for small scale clean-up.

Syllabus Mistake

A professor came by the desk today looking for this title:
The new encyclopedia of the American West / edited by Howard R. Lamar
She mistakenly listed the Barnard call number on her syllabus while directing students to Butler Reference room 301. It is behind the desk and the correct call number is:
R974.3 N42
